An Unfavorable Business: Running Local Media in Myanmar’s Ethnic States and Regions

The authors of this publication have researched the obstacles faced by 55 local media outlets operating in Myanmar in terms of sustainability and continued existence. The most important of these appear to be the uneven advertising market development, government domination of the media sector, and an uneven digital media transition. To address these issues, the authors suggest that a a framework is needed to establish long-term strategies (for revenue development, organisational development and sustainability).
