Supporting Local Journalism in the Age of Covid-19

The sector most at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic is local journalism. Without support, the losses that local news media sustain could have severe impact, leading to public officials being less accountable, fewer people running for office, and citizens becoming less engaged with elections. In this article, the author proposes seven guiding principles for policymakers and founders to mitigate the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on local journalism.
