A story (pg. 6) describing the role community radio Suara Surabaya has in Indonesia in exploring issues their community faces.
The radio has a reach of 600,000 people daily and people call in to address problems that the city council can and should take up – an example described is that of a garbarge crisis in the area and how the callers provided various solutions for the city council and garbage management was improved because the city council valued the radio and audience – and the radio’s watchdog role.
